DeLight is a system that informs users about their stress levels and assists them in biofeedback relaxation with a biofeedback-driven lighting environment. DeLight measures physiological data such as blood volume pulse, respiration, and skin conductance. The data is transmitted to a biofeedback program via a Bluetooth connection, which is coupled to a set of programmable light bulbs. Our solution differs from DeLight in physicality and form. While DeLight has several components of ambient lights installed on the ceiling, our proposed system is portable, in a rounded spherical form, and can be held freely by the user. Our solution also promotes social connection by coupling feedback between two partner objects.
This ambient orb accesses online information to allow users to track information important to them through shifting colors. Our solution also uses a shifting ambient display, but instead of tapping into online information, our proposed system will track and communicate information from the user between two objects, including touch and pulse information, for example. Our display emphasizes the use of light to promote a relaxed, meditative atmosphere.
Emotisphere is an interactive sensor-based musical instrument that generates music based on a user’s emotional state. Emotisphere offers a novel way to understand the relationship between music and emotions by representing the interaction in a glowing white orb that changes color. Our idea differs from EmotiSphere as it does not incorporate music but both aim to represent an inner state through a separate object that affects the surrounding environment.
This paper analyzes the capabilities of current data collection to inform caretakers of elderly patients about their health, mood, and habits. The research presents a bidirectional ambient display platform, enabling asynchronous viewing of activity levels to create awareness and enhance social connectedness. This application can be useful in understanding the importance of relaying information about an internal state to a separate viewing device to reduce isolation and loneliness. Our solution does not focus solely on elderly patients, although it could encompass them as well, or specifically on health but also an emotional state.
EmoEcho is a tangible interface that captures and communicates emotions between distanced people. Using a wearable device, the system measures the wearer’s touch, movement, and pulse, creating vibration patterns on the connected partner device. Our idea differs from EmoEcho, as it uses an ambient lighting system to impact the user’s environment. The ambient lighting creates a more immersive experience that promotes stress reduction and relaxation.
